Retailer's four-figure donation to Hinckley food bank

A Hinckley food bank has received a festive boost with a four-figure donation from the UK’s leading online flooring retailer – which is based in the town.

UK Flooring Direct, which is based at Hinckley Commercial Park, has pledged £1,500 to the Hinckley branch of food bank charity, The Trussell Trust.

The money will help volunteers to carry on feeding the town’s most vulnerable, as well as transporting donated items at supermarkets to six food banks across Hinckley.

Julie Baker, Project Manager at The Trussell Trust in Hinckley, revealed that they have so far handed out 27,000 meals to more than 3,000 people across Hinckley since April - a third of which are children aged under 16.

She said:

“Although we are in a good place in terms of stock levels heading into Christmas, the donation from UK Flooring Direct will enable us to prepare for the New Year when the level of demand is unclear, so we are extremely grateful for their generosity.

“Although we appear to have bucked the national trend of seeing an increase in the number of people accessing our services- mainly due to various local organisations sharing the demand - we have noticed that more people are coming to us because they are either having to self-isolate or have been made redundant.

“This is something we need to guard against as we head into the New Year, and these funds will really help us to get off to a strong start after a period where much of our stock will have been used up over Christmas, when we always tend to see a rise in demand.

“For anyone keen to donate to us over the coming weeks at one of the town’s major supermarkets, we are appealing for tinned varieties of meat, vegetables and fruit.”

Lisa Ashby, board member at UK Flooring Direct, reached out to The Trussell Trusts’ Hinckley food bank to present a cheque as part of a wider £6,000 donation to other food banks across the region.

She commented:

“We are passionate about giving something back to the community that we call home and have established strong relationships with the region’s food banks.

“We are aware of the tough times that many families are going through right now, and hopefully this donation will go some way to making life a little bit easier.”
