DCG Brings Christmas Cheer To Local Residents

Hundreds of students and staff across DCG have been involved in Derby City Council’s Christmas Cheer project which is providing much needed support and festive cheer to particularly vulnerable and elderly people across the city.

Hospitality and Catering team are cooking 300 meals with ingredients sourced by the Food 4 Thought Alliance.

Students across the College have helped put together small gift hampers to be delivered across the city. These include hand-crafted Christmas cards made by students in our Travel and Tourism and Health and Social Care, Steps and Lexis academies.

The Media department has spearheaded a campaign for donations of treats and larder staples across the DCG community for the hampers and the response has been incredible.

Meanwhile Performing Arts students have devised and recorded a wonderful online performance for people to enjoy at home.

DCG Chief Executive Mandie Stravino said:

“I am immensely proud that we are part of the Christmas Cheer initiative this December.

“This fantastic project will bring much-needed support and festive cheer to some of the most vulnerable people in local communities across our city who have already faced so many challenges this year.

“Christmas Cheer perfectly reflects DCG’s mission which is to prepare students for the next stages of their lives. 

“We aim to nurture young people to become well-rounded citizens with the skills, attributes and behaviours they need to make a positive contribution both to the economy and to society.

“Involvement in this initiative has therefore empowered them to gain valuable team building, project management, practical and creative skills that benefit people in their local communities.”
