Braving the chop for children's cancer charity

A jeweller from Clifton has donated 16 inches of her hair to a charity that makes wigs for children living with cancer.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young people who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions. Brave Alex Defina (27) heard about the Trust from friends who had previously donated hair and she wanted to help.

Alex chose KH Hair on Central Avenue in West Bridgford to carry out the cut.

"I was very nervous but excited on the day but my stylist, Amy, was so enthusiastic and supportive. " she said. "The Little Princess Trust does such a great job of helping children find their confidence again after losing their hair.  They provide stunning real hair wigs made solely from donations and I thought if my hair can help them carry on doing what they do, I just had to donate it.

"I absolutely love my new style." she added. "I felt like a new woman when I came out of the salon.  It's so much easier to look after and I'm saving so much time and shampoo! All my friends and family love it too."

Stylist and salon director, Amy said she loved creating Alex's new look.

"I thought it was such a brave and amazing thing to do." she said. "Her new style looks incredible on her and it really felt like we were on a journey together to a brand new Alex!"
