Housebuilder helps to transform sensory garden for local schoolchildren

Work on a new sensory garden at a primary school in Wingerworth is well underway, thanks to a local housebuilder.

Bellway – which is building new homes at Curzon Park in the village – has provided Hunloke Park Primary School with a £250 boost towards the building the garden, along with plants and landscaping.

Works will start on garden this Spring, and the space will be used for outdoor learning, sensory time, science, design and general gardening.

As part of the project, pupils took part in a drawing competition to create some designs for how the garden could look, with prizes awarded to the three winners.

Year two teacher at Hunloke Park Primary School, Sam Lumley, said:

“Over the past couple of years, Hunloke Park Primary School has been on a mission to enhance the children’s learning environment and their opportunities for outdoor learning.

“We have embarked upon creating a sensory garden which will lead to our forest school area. We want to foster a hands-on approach to learning outdoors and know the children will love to help make it a wonderful place.

“Thanks to Bellway’s donation we will be able to start our wonderful project and are excited about the new opportunities the children will have. Everyone deserves this opportunity and we’d like to thank Bellway for their support."

Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, Carolyne Watkinson, said:

“Hunloke Park Primary School is a wonderful school and we are very pleased to be able to contribute to such a great cause.

“Interactive learning is a great way for the schoolchildren to get involved in the curriculum, and we really hope this donation will benefit the school for years to come.”

Bellway is building a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes at Curzon Park in Wingerworth. For more information on the new homes available visit bellway.co.uk.
