Barratt Homes Northampton has donated £1,000 to Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

The donation was made as part of the Barratt David Wilson Homes Community Fund scheme, which has been designed to strengthen ties with local communities.

Barratt David Wilson Homes donates £1,000 to a local charity or organisation each month, improving the quality of life for those living in the area.

Cynthia Spencer Hospice provides inpatient care, outpatient services, wellbeing services, Hospice at Home, lymphoedema services and a palliative care clinical nurse specialist service.

Nina Gandy, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Cynthia Spencer Hospice, said:

“We were thrilled to find out Cynthia Spencer Hospice had been voted for by staff at Barratt Homes to receive the donation as this amount of money could really make a difference to one of our patients and their family.

“The donation will fund two days’ care for one of our patients, as well as supporting their family too. Our care recognises that it is the most difficult times for both patients and their families so we will support them however we can.

“Receiving gifts like this means our care staff can spend more time caring for our patients and giving their family as much quality time as possible with them too.”

The hospice has two specialist consultants in palliative medicine together with a team of doctors and specialist nurses who work within the community as well as at Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry.

The hospice offers specialist physical, psychological, social and spiritual care. Benefitting those with life-limiting illnesses with a focus on quality of life and respecting the uniqueness of each person.

The specialist palliative care service is jointly funded by Cynthia Spencer Hospice Charity and the Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The cost of running the hospice is over £2.4 million, a large part of which comes from the generous support of local companies and individuals throughout the county.

“As a charity that provides support to people throughout Northamptonshire whether they are suffering a life-limiting illness or coping with the impact of an illness as a family member, close friend or carer.

“We’d like to extend our thanks to Barratt Homes as the country’s largest housebuilder for using their position to shine a light on the need for local communities to support local charities.

“Nobody ever knows when they, their family, friends, neighbours or colleagues are going to need the support of charities like ours so it’s an extremely valuable message to us.”

The inpatient ward at the hospice has 16 beds and is supported by a team of healthcare professionals and experts in palliative care. Cynthia Spencer Hospice offers a mixture of single rooms and shared bedrooms areas.

For visitors, there is a comfortable lounge for patients and their families to spend time together and a garden situated at the rear of the hospice which provides calm and peaceful areas for patients and families to sit.
