Leading housebuilder lends a helping hand at local homeless charity

Staff at Barratt Homes Northampton have pitched in for a day to help at Northampton’s Hope Centre; a local poverty and homeless charity.

Barratt Homes volunteers spent the day at the Hope Centre’s warehouse, picking and packing food items to be sent off to various sites around Northampton for the charity’s Food Club.

Noo Jarvill, who deals with Corporate Engagement at the Hope Centre, said: “Hope’s Food Club was started to help those on the cusp of poverty. Weekly, we distribute food via various pop-up shops across Northampton and to help stock these, we rely on donations from the public. With one member of staff running this project we lean heavily on the community to support us and so we are very grateful for the volunteers from Barratt Homes who have done just that.

Our Food Club has been up and running for nearly two years now and with the bulk of donations coming in around Harvest and Christmas, we were delighted that Barratt Homes were able to send a team to help – they made a real dent in the work that needed to be done.”

The Food Club is a social supermarket where people become members and can buy food at an exceedingly reduced price, and enjoy free giveaways.

Food is distributed throughout community centres and hubs across Northampton on a weekly basis so that people and families on a low income can receive essential foods and products they otherwise wouldn’t normally have.

Edward Irving, Development Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said:

“At Barratt Homes we feel that it is important to help support local charities and causes and during this time of year, homelessness & poverty is one we feel very strongly about.

“The work that the Hope Centre delivers as a charity is such a worthy cause that we were only too happy to send a team to help with their campaign.”

Barratt Homes is currently building at the following developments in Northamptonshire: Lyveden Fields in Corby, Lake View at Priors Hall Park in Corby and The Brackens in Brackley.
