Nottingham leisure Complex Encourages People To 'Give Back' This Winter

Nottingham’s leading entertainment and leisure complex, The Cornerhouse will host its very own foodbank this December, encouraging members of the public to give generously over the festive period.

The event will be hosted at The Cornerhouse on Forman street, Nottingham on 7 December from 12pm until 3pm in the drum.

Non-perishable food items will be welcomed and then passed on to Old Basford Primary School to boost their onsite food bank after the event. It’s the ideal opportunity to spread some festive generosity in time for the Christmas period.

By way of saying thank you, the first 80 donations received will be exchanged for a free cinema ticket by The Cornerhouse team. This can be redeemed for a movie of their choice at Cineworld Nottingham, showing festive films like Last Christmas and the smash-hit Frozen 2 – perfect for families.

Each donation, no matter how small or large, will be eligible to be exchanged for one cinema ticket. Recommended donations include canned foods, pasta, rice, selection boxes, biscuits, flour, sugar, tea bags, coffee and crisps. As well as food, you can also donate toiletries such as toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant and shower gel.

Charlie Truman, centre executive at The Cornerhouse commented on the event:

“Christmas is a time for giving and that is something we hold close to our hearts here at The Cornerhouse. With the already wet and cold winter we’re experiencing, more and more people are in need of food and other essentials. No matter how small, every donation makes a difference to our local community.

“Research has shown the number of people living in poverty is rising rapidly in our city and more and more families are struggling to put food on the table during school holidays, especially for those who receive free school meals during term time. The festive period always adds an additional strain on people’s pockets, so we’d like to help give back to those in need. We hope that the generous donations from the people of Nottingham will help make a difference to families this winter.”
