Family charity launches '20/20 Vision'

Derby-based family support charity Me&Dee is hosting a special event to share its vision of creating a new holiday home in the East Midlands, for families experiencing life-limiting illness.

Me&Dee arranges memory holidays at the seaside in two lovely, spacious caravans, giving families a chance to make memories together when time is very precious. It was formed to create special moments and memories to both children and adults who have a life threatening, life shortening or a terminal condition.

However, over the past 12 months, the charity has found that many of the families which it provides support to have been unable to enjoy a full week at its caravans in Mablethorpe.

They are often young parents with little time left and very young children to ensure plans are in place for. As many of our families are Midlands based, 200 mile round trips from home are extremely demanding and often they need to return home early for treatment, palliative care and, sadly, to die.

For some time, the charity has wanted to invest in an alternative holiday home, a bit closer to home, and has found a lodge in Sherwood Hideaway, within Sherwood Forest, on the Derby/Nottingham border. The lodge has 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large lounge, kitchen and utility room along with a very large decking area and hot tub.

Me&Dee is now prepared to launch and undertake a completely separate fundraising project to raise the 150,000 needed to secure the lodge for the families that need it.

It is holding a special launch evening, between 5pm and 7pm on 24 September, at The Farmhouse at Mackworth, in Derby, to explain the project and kick-start the fundraising campaign.

Places at the free drinks reception can be booked online. All bookings should be made by 20 September.
