The annual Investors in the Environment Awards - Central Region took place on Tuesday 11th July, at Doubletree by Hilton, in Nottingham.

 

 

The annual Investors in the Environment Awards - Central Region took place on Tuesday 11th July, at Doubletree by Hilton, in Nottingham.

The event was hosted by Ella McManus, principal business advisor for iiE Central. The evening celebrated 21 local organisations that are making green practice the norm by first of all developing their own Environmental Management System and then following an Action Plan that cuts waste, energy use and the organisations overall carbon footprint. Businesses find that the help and support given by Investors in the Environment make this process simple and effective.

With over 71% of customers considering the environmental impact before making a purchase, guest speaker Rehan Alam of Inspiring Training, delivered an excellent presentation on why it was important for businesses making a commitment to the environment to deliver that message, to both their staff and potential customers. Rehan also presented the awards certificates, of which there are three levels, Bronze, Silver and the highest standard, Green.

In order to achieve the highest Green Level award, businesses must demonstrate a minimum 2% improvement in resource efficiency over an agreed baseline figure. Other essential criteria include having a recycling system in place, adopting a travel plan, calculating a carbon footprint and setting targets for carbon reduction as well as encouraging employee engagement or CSR projects.
