DHP Family Wins Big at National Music Industry Awards

Leading live music company DHP Family is celebrating a quartet of wins for its venues, festivals, shows and staff in this year’s national industry awards organised by Live UK.

Rescue Rooms, The War on Drugs show at Alexandra Palace, Splendour Festival and the Head of Concert Assistants and PA to Managing Director Wai Mundia were the four DHP Family winners in this year’s Live Music Business Awards.

Director of Live Anton Lockwood said: “Another great night for us at the LIVE UK awards! Very pleased to see Rescue Rooms picking up a venue award in the year it celebrates its 15th birthday, and Wai Mundia getting recognition for being the unsung hero we’ve all long known her to be.”

Rescue Rooms won the award for the Best Venue Teamwork under 800 capacity capping off a great birthday year. Opened by DHP Family in 2003 as a place to host cutting edge live music, the venue has been described as a ‘jewel in the crown’ of Nottingham’s live music and is an important destination on the touring circuit for emerging acts.

General manager Nick Walters said: “Really happy to win this award, especially during Rescue Room’s 15th Anniversary! A big thank you to everybody who does their bit to make Rescue Rooms the venue it is, and to all the people who visit it!”

DHP Family was also delighted to win Spectacle of the Year as the promoter of American indie-rock band The War On Drugs biggest ever UK show at Alexandra Palace which delivered ‘intimacy on a grand scale’ - Guardian.

DHP Family promoter Scott O’Neill said: “Taking The War on Drugs to Alexandra Palace in 2017 was an amazing moment for the band and DHP. After working with them for over ten years, it’s been fantastic to watch them grow into one of the great live bands in the world! We can’t wait for the O2 Arena show in December!”

Head of concerts assistants and PA to the managing director, Wai Mundia was named as Unsung Hero. DHP Family MD George Akins said: “I’m so happy to see my right arm, Wai Mundia, recognised for her work. Her impact across my whole company is incredible and I always seem to get the glory she so richly deserves.”

Splendour, the one-day festival in Nottingham, was named Best Festival (cap 15,000-39,999) for its 10th birthday shindig headlined by Paloma Faith.

Now in its ninth year, the awards recognise excellence and talent among promoters, venue operators, festival organisers and agents, through to artiste managers, tour managers, show producers, brand impact and record label partnerships.

DHP Family were big winners at last year’s Live Music Business Awards walking off with the coveted National Promoter of the Year as well as Best Venue for Rock City and were not eligible to enter these categories this year.
