History with Love Business

Philip was involved in Love Business from the very beginning, back in 2011, when his brother, Steve, had the idea to promote good news and celebrate business success within the East Midlands.

From the idea to the first expo, we had 12 weeks to organise everything, including the website, to share all the good news.
Within 12 weeks of the initial concept and planning, the inaugural Love Business Expo took place, on 14 February 2012. It was immediately declared a resounding success.

Philip helped to build the event on this initial success, by bringing on board more key partners, sponsors and exhibitors, as well as overseeing activities to grow the number of visitors each year. He looks after event logistics and ensure its smooth running of the event on the day.

Love Business has become a firm fixture in the East Midlands business calendar and regularly attracts thousands of delegates and hundreds of exhibitors, while many of the region’s most high-profile organisations are key event partners.

Local connections

Philip was born in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, and started his school life at Meadow Farm Primary School, before moving on to Spondon Comprehensive.

While at senior school, he did a two-year foundation course on building construction, at Wilmorton College. He’s a keen Derby County supporter and spends most of the working week at Quiet Storm’s base in Whitwick, before commuting back to his home, in Anglesey, at the weekend.

Career journey

In 1983, at the peak of the Miners’ Strike and over three million people unemployed, Philip left school and with the help of his brother, Steve, got an interview with a company called Trident Superstores, who were the first out of town white and brown goods retail store in the UK.

He started as a junior salesman. In 13 years with the company, he experienced six takeovers. Fortunately, he was always kept on and progressed through the ranks until reaching the final position of district manager.

Philip left in 1995 to join Steve at Art Direction (Quiet Storm was the parent company) as a production manager and has worked at Quiet Storm ever since.
He’s now a Director at Quiet Storm and responsible for the day to day running of the business.

Current key business focus

Quiet Storm has evolved its offer from a marketing and sales solutions provider to a leader in developing sophisticated websites and browser-based software.

It now specialises in the optimisation of business process to reduce cost, increase productivity and provide measurable accountability.
Philip’s main focus is on helping existing and new clients to digitise their business and processes so they have an end-to-end solution that drives their business and not down to individuals doing it their way.

He is also passionate about skills and education and helping young people to develop. He has helped Quiet Storm to forge strong links with local schools and colleges to give local students apprenticeship and work experience opportunities, with the aim of nurturing Quiet Storms future workforce.
