Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Transitions UK

Our Story

Transitions UK was launched in October 2014, born of a real frustration that the needs of our young people were not being properly addressed, let alone met. Our founder and CEO, Ron Overton, was on a charity trek at Everest Base Camp and was sharing his vision to change that (at 20,000 feet!) and was encouraged by other trekkers to get the charity off the ground “If it matters that much, Ron, you should do something about it!”.

Over the past 7 years, the charity has seen huge growth. From a single project launched in Luton in 2015, we are now providing three projects in 10 location hubs across Herts, Beds, Bucks, Leicestershire, Birmingham and North London. We also run a virtual project that supports those, and more. We have recently launched our Affirm mental health project into North London and will launch a Milton Keynes Affirm Project early in the new year. We aim to grow by 50% or more p.a.

In 2022, we can now offer personally tailored help to over 250 young people, providing over 50,000 hours of support. Ideally, that will double over the next 6-12 months. That’s currently delivered by an amazing team of 35 full and part-time staff and 150 wonderful volunteers, all providing support that changes young lives and futures!

Our Mission

We are here to change the lives and futures of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people across the UK. We aim to become a national charity with a national footprint and a national voice for young people.

In the current environment of Covid-19 and a growing recession, we are especially concerned to address the needs of what has been called a lost generation of young people. Many feel demoralised, disillusioned and disengaged from their community. There needs to be urgent and fundamental change to prevent the blighting of so many young lives.

Our Vision

We want to live in a nation that provides young people with the best possible opportunities for a positive and productive life that in turn benefits those people whose lives they touch, including their own children and families. We want young people to have an alternative to the disillusion and powerlessness that so many feel; to be engaged in the process of positive change personally and socially.

We want our nation as a whole to be a force for good in working with other nations to encourage those same values across our increasingly populated and increasingly small yet needy world.

We believe it is possible to change the future of our nation and world: to give young people what they need to change their own world and to positively affect the lives of those they touch and with whom they share. Our vision is to make that happen.
