Melton Mowbray Mother-Daughter Lettings Agency Earns National Recognition

A 27 year old Melton Mowbray business owner has been recognised as a finalist at the National Property Awards 2026, little more than a year after her family run lettings agency took on its first property.

Becky Clarke, co-founder of Amhurst Lettings, was a finalist for Young Property Professional of the Year at the awards ceremony held at The Eastside Rooms in Birmingham on 18th September 2026.

Becky founded Amhurst Lettings with her mum, Debbie Clarke, in 2025. The agency took on its first managed property in June 2025, when Becky was 26, and now manages single-let and HMO properties for portfolio landlords across Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.

Becky had left her corporate career at 25, where she worked as a customer service manager leading teams, adjusting systems and managing customer complaints. That experience gave her a strong grounding in communication, service and building processes around the customer rather than the business.

Property, meanwhile, had long been part of family life. Becky’s parents have around 30 years of experience in the construction industry and have spent the last 14 years running their own residential construction company together. That background gives Amhurst practical knowledge of property and maintenance that goes beyond the administrative side of lettings.

The idea for Amhurst came after Becky attended property networking events and repeatedly heard landlords describe the same frustrations with letting agents including poor communication, unclear fees, maintenance mark-ups, unexpected charges, slow repairs and feeling as though they were managing their manager.

Amhurst was built as the agency those landlords said they wished existed.

Today, Becky leads the business direction, landlord and tenant relationships, systems and operations, while Debbie manages maintenance administration and finance. They work from home rather than a high-street office and combine Becky’s customer service background with the family’s construction knowledge.

The agency operates with transparent management fees, no maintenance mark-ups and no lock-in contracts, with open and honest communication practised across landlords and tenants.

Since taking on its first property in June 2025, Amhurst has grown with two directors and no outside investment. It has recorded 100% occupancy and an average letting time of around 10 days. Average tenancy length stands at 16.4 months, with an average tenant satisfaction rating of 4.6 stars.

Becky said:

“When we started, we didn’t have a big office, a team or outside investment. We had an idea of how we thought property management should be done and a lot of conversations with landlords telling us what they felt was missing.

“We took on our first property in June last year, so to be standing at a national awards ceremony as a finalist just over a year later was a really proud moment for both Mum and me.”

The next stage for Amhurst is focused on growing its portfolio of managed properties across Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, particularly by working with residential landlords who own multiple properties and want a more proactive approach to management.

Becky added:

“The goal is to make Amhurst the go-to independent property managementagency for residential landlords across Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. We want togrow, but we don’t want to lose the reason we started the business in the first place. For us, that means being proactive, knowing the properties we manage and making landlords feel like their portfolio is genuinely being looked after.”
