Coalville children learn lifesaving skills at Amazon

The children of Amazon employees in Coalville are one step closer to becoming lifesavers after taking part in a special first aid and CPR training session at the Amazon fulfilment centre in the city.
Mini Medics is a basic first aid course designed for children between the ages of seven and 16. The course introduces children to health knowledge, lifesaving skills and administering first aid.
The course safety facilitator welcomed Amazon employees and their children for a fun and interactive session that introduced them to essential first aid, learning how to check for danger and practising CPR techniques.
Paul Roberts, General Manager at Amazon in Coalville, said:
“Bringing our colleagues’ families together for something this worthwhile is exactly the kind of event we love to support. Watching the children throw themselves into the session, asking questions and practising the techniques, was brilliant to see. First aid is one of those skills you hope never to need but are so grateful to have, and it means a lot to know these children now have the confidence to act if they’re ever faced with an emergency.”
Hannah Jayne who led the training course, added:
“This group were fantastic, full of energy and genuinely eager to learn. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly children grasp CPR and first aid, often faster than adults do. Our goal is to put these skills into as many hands as possible, and sessions like this one at Amazon in Coalville are exactly how we make that happen. Any one of these children could go on to save a life because of what they learned today.”
Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. The West Midlands Multibank opened this year, with Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC). The initiative has donated more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across Wales, Scotland, Greater Manchester, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham. This year, the Multibank will send 1 million orders to families across the UK.
Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.
Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
