The best of the best: Lincolnshire Site Manager wins quality award

A site manager overseeing the construction at a housing development in Lincolnshire has won a top national award for the quality of the homes being built onsite.
Barratt Homes’ site manager, Peter Hobby (45), has won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.
In total, site managers working for Barratt Homes’ parent company, Barratt Redrow Plc, have won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.
This is the 22nd year in a row that Barratt Redrow has won the most Pride in the Job awards, underlining just how important building high quality sustainable homes has been to the developer over the past two decades.
Peter Hobby has been with Barratt Homes for over three years and has worked in site management for more than two decades. Before this, Peter started as an apprentice bricklayer at the age of 17.
Having previously won Pride in the Job awards in 2012 and 2015, Peter picked up his third award as Senior Site Manager at Barratt Homes at Bourne.
Peter, now a Project Manager for the developer, said: “It feels really good to have won another award. We were really close to winning last year, so it feels great to now get over the line.
“We appreciated the feedback we received from the previous year’s marking process, and implemented improvements to our build process, as well as further stepping up the quality of work to produce a really well finished overall product.
“I have to thank all of the team who made this award possible. In particular, both my assistants, Rokas Stepanovas and Jonny Hallam, who showed amazing commitment and interest in delivering the highest quality.”
The awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with thousands of inspections having taken place to determine the winners. Judging is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The competition is also at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards. With site managers passing on their skills to their teams and mentoring assistant site managers, the awards help drive up quality standards across the industry.

This is the 17th year in a row that Barratt Redrow customers have rated it a five-star housebuilder, underlining its long-term commitment to making its customers happy.
