Leicester charity opens new creative space for young people

Pedestrian, a Leicester-based arts and education charity, has opened the doors to a new creative hub for children and young people in the heart of the city.
The newly renovated safe space, located opposite the Town Hall Square at 29 Horsefair Street, marks the completion of the charity’s “Our Big Build” project and provides a creative environment where children and young people can learn, create and thrive.
Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity raised £187,000 to complete the new hub, which includes two workshop spaces, three state-of-the-art recording studios, community meeting room and a gallery/exhibition space.

“Our Big Build project was launched to meet a desperate and growing need to support young people in our city who are crying out for a safe space to create, learn and grow.
“Our newly renovated hub is so much more than bricks and mortar. Our region has one of the lowest levels of per-person funding in the UK, and according to The Sutton Trust, some of the lowest rates of top grades and attainment among high-achieving disadvantaged pupils compared to London and the south. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we'll now be able to offer creative opportunities and skills development to more children and young people in Leicester than ever before.
“We truly believe that this vital space will have a positive impact on the employability, stability and wellbeing of generations to come.”
Pedestrian has been empowering vulnerable children and young people across Leicester and Leicestershire since 1998. In that time, they have made life-changing differences to over 66,700 young people, giving them hope and opportunity for a brighter future.
