Booked and Busy: Lincolnshire housebuilder kicks off Summer Reading Challenge at local school

Barratt Homes is encouraging young people at Waltham Leas Primary Academy, near it’s Wigmore Park development, to find their passion for reading this summer.
Five-star homebuilder Barratt Homes has kicked off its summer reading challenge with the pupils of Waltham Leas Primary Academy this past week.
The developer donated a range of books to the school, to strengthen the school library’s resources, and set the pupils a challenge. The pupils are to read a book over the summer break and fill in the booklet with a review of the book and draw their favourite characters home.
Once completed, the pupils are to return their booklets to Wigmore Park for a prize and to be in with the chance of winning a free family day out to Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Every week, we hold dedicated ‘Reading for Pleasure’ sessions across the school, and we hope this summer reading challenge will inspire the pupils to continue enjoying books and developing their reading skills throughout the holidays.”
Barratt Homes hopes to inspire young people to take part in actively reading over the summer and is engaging with multiple schools across its operational areas of East Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
The challenge comes at an exciting time, with the National Literacy Trust also launching its National Year of Reading in 2026. Backed by the Department for Education, the initiative is encouraging readers to “Go All In” and read about their passions. Whether this be football, dancing, gaming, or a wide variety of other topics, they believe that starting with passion, rather than pressure, is the best way to build a strong reading culture across the UK.
