With well-known industry names among its customer base, including BRUSH Switchgear and BRUSH Transformers, D K Moriarty designs and manufactures high-performance current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), and related bespoke solutions for energy distribution power generation as well as commercial and industrial sectors
D K Moriarty has been family owned and operated since 1968, gaining an enviable reputation for engineering excellence, technical expertise and exceptional customer service that has seen the firm grow to a workforce of 50 people at its manufacturing facility in Colchester, Essex.
The acquisition is another key step in BRUSH Group's strategy to strength its UK production capabilities while also building resilience into its domestic supply chain. By bringing D K Moriarty into the Group, BRUSH secures access to critical components whilst further expanding its engineering expertise and opportunity for growth.
BRUSH Group CEO, Nicolas Pitrat said:
“We are delighted to welcome D K Moriarty into the BRUSH family. The team have built an outstanding reputation over many decades for designing and building highly engineered instrument transformers that are trusted across the domestic electricity sector. Their expertise, commitment to quality, and customer-focused approach makes them an excellent fit for BRUSH.
“This acquisition is particularly important as it strengthens our control over a crucial part of our supply chain, enhancing our technical capabilities and supporting our ambition to deliver even greater value to customers through shorter lead times, increased manufacturing base, and expanded engineering knowhow. And, just like our other recent acquisitions, it reinforces our long-term commitment to investing in UK manufacturing – particularly timely when reindustrialisation is high on the political agenda.”
D K Moriarty’s Operations Director, Sean Moriarty, whose father started the business some 58 years ago, said:
“This agreement marks an exciting new chapter for our business. D K Moriarty has been built on a reputation of quality, reliability, and exceptional customer service and now by becoming part of BRUSH, we can further build on these qualities through access to a wider pool of engineering talent and the resources that being part of a larger organisation brings. We’re looking forward to working closely with our new colleagues in BRUSH to grow the business, enhance our capabilities, and continue supporting our customers with the high-quality products and service they’ve come to expect.”
Instrument transformers are critical components in modern switchgear and power transformers, providing the measurement and protection functions that ensure safe and reliable operation of electrical networks. D K Moriarty's customised products are engineered to individual project requirements and specifically manufactured to meet relevant UK, European, and international standards – an approach that complements BRUSH's existing product portfolio and power engineering solutions.
The transaction is further evidence of BRUSH's strategy to deliver complete engineering solutions across the UK's electricity infrastructure while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy system. By integrating D K Moriarty’s specialist manufacturing expertise into the Group, BRUSH is strengthening its ability to support network resilience, industrial electrification, and the UK's evolving energy infrastructure.
D K Moriarty will continue to operate from its Colchester manufacturing base and will operate as usual for employees, customers and suppliers.
