The best of the best: Leicestershire site manager wins quality award

A site manager overseeing the construction at Barratt Homes’ King’s Meadow development in Leicestershire has won a top national award for the quality of the homes being built onsite.
Barratt Homes North Midlands has seen nine of its site managers receive a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC), an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.
Among the housebuilder’s award winners is James Hawley (40), who has been with Barratt Homes for nine years and won his second Pride in the Job award as Site Manager on the King’s Meadow development in Melton Mowbray.
In total, site managers working for Barratt Homes’ parent company, Barratt Redrow Plc, have won 122 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.
This is the 22nd year in a row that Barratt Redrow has won the most Pride in the Job awards, underlining just how important building high quality sustainable homes has been to the developer over the past two decades.
James said:
“I am absolutely delighted to win this award for the second year running, it really does make the hard work and long hours worth it!
“We have consistently delivered a quality product throughout the build stages for the last three years. Everyone enjoys working at the development, we have an excellent team around us and we make sure that everyone enjoys coming to work by creating the right environment and platform for trades to produce their best work.
“Firstly, I would like to thank Jason Price, my Assistant Site Manager, who I have an excellent working relationship with, and who without this award wouldn’t be possible. Secondly, all the trades who have played their part in the last three years deserve recognition for consistently producing quality workmanship being part of an excellent team.”
The awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with thousands of inspections having taken place to determine the winners. Judging is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The competition is also at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards. With site managers passing on their skills to their teams and mentoring assistant site managers, the awards help drive up quality standards across the industry.

This is the 17th year in a row that Barratt Redrow customers have rated it a five-star housebuilder, underlining its long-term commitment to making its customers happy.
