Northampton Installer Crowned UK's Best Renewables Specialist

A heating installer from Northampton has been recognised as the UK's leading renewables specialist after winning the Best Renewables Installer title at the national Heating Installer Awards.

George Tiefenthaler, owner of POP Heating and Renewables, took home the prestigious national award after impressing judges with his expertise in designing and installing innovative low-carbon heating systems for homeowners. Having already secured a place on the national shortlist earlier this year, George went on to compete against some of the UK's top renewable heating specialists. Following a rigorous judging process, technical challenge and public vote, he was crowned Best Renewables Installer 2026.

George's award-winning entry showcased a complex project at a six-bedroom property with a rehabilitation swimming pool, where maintaining efficient and reliable heating for both the home and pool was essential. Following extensive planning and consultation, he developed a solution capable of meeting the property's significant heating demands while also creating opportunities for future integration with solar panels and battery storage to further reduce energy costs.

Judges praised George's technical expertise, innovative thinking and ability to deliver a bespoke renewable heating solution for a challenging property. They highlighted the project as an excellent example of how renewable technologies can be successfully applied to larger homes with complex heating requirements.

Speaking about his win, George said:

“It’s a real honour to have won this award, particularly as the judging process was tough. Out of all the entries I was one of six shortlisted for this category. We all then had to complete a tough technical challenge, so to have won the title is incredible. Thank you to everyone and well done to everyone shortlisted too.”

Laura Mashiter, founder of Heating Installer Awards, said:

"George's project demonstrated exceptional technical skill and a deep understanding of renewable heating technologies. Designing a system that could efficiently heat both a large family home and a rehabilitation pool required careful planning and expert execution. The finished result was outstanding and showcased exactly the kind of innovation and professionalism that this award was created to celebrate."

The Heating Installer Awards was created to shine a spotlight on the exceptional skill, dedication and professionalism of heating installers across the UK. Now in its 12th year, the awards have become one of the industry's most respected accolades, recognising installers who consistently deliver outstanding workmanship and customer service.

George received his award at InstallerSHOW 2026 at the NEC Birmingham in June, where leading manufacturers, installers and industry professionals gathered to celebrate innovation and excellence across the building services sector. Alongside the prestigious trophy, he also received prizes from the awards' sponsors including Danfoss, Powered Now, Samsung Climate Solutions, Stelrad, the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, InstallerSHOW and Refresh.
