Make every step count for children’s charity

Children’s charity Over The Wall Camp is calling on runners of all abilities to lace up their trainers and represent the charity in this September’s Robin Hood Half Marathon.

The charity has a number of free places available in the popular event. Participants are being asked to raise sponsorship to help provide free residential camps filled with joy, confidence and carefree childhood moments for children and young people living with serious health challenges, as well as their families.

Alongside the 13.1-mile half marathon, adults and children can also support Over The Wall Camp by taking part in the shorter 1.5-mile Mini Marathon, making it a great opportunity for the whole family to get involved.

One of the UK’s most popular road events, the Robin Hood Half Marathon welcomes everyone from seasoned runners to beginners.

Laura-Beth Marchington took part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon in 2025, despite starting the year as a non-runner. She raised an incredible £555 for Over The Wall Camp. Laura said:

“Taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon was a real personal challenge, but the thrill of crossing the finishing line and seeing my little girl waiting for me was amazing!

“Finding the time to train wasn’t always easy, but absolutely worth it to raise so much money to help Over The Wall Camp. The charity team were really helpful and supportive, and it was great to see them there on the day, adding additional encouragement to all their runners.

“I would encourage anyone to give it a go, especially in support of Over The Wall Camp, even if you end up walking some of the route.”

Sophie Parkins, Senior Regional Development Manager at Over The Wall Camp added:

“Running for Over The Wall Camp comes with some amazing benefits. You have the knowledge that with every step you take, you’re making a life-changing difference to a child with a long-term health condition.

“We’ll provide you with a branded running vest, see you at the Race Village, cheer you along the route, and offer you helpful fundraising advice.

“So, whether you’re just starting out on your running journey or aiming for a personal best, we’d love to hear from you! There are limited places available so get in touch soon.”
