The contribution from Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands will support the charity in a variety of ways, including the upkeep of its current clubs across the UK, the opening of new ones, refreshments for the groups each week, and the creation of awareness materials to expand their reach.
It will also help source new balls which are passed around the groups as they open up to one another, in addition to hoodies, t-shirts and hats to ensure volunteers are recognisable and approachable when someone new visits a club.
Lucas Whitehead, Head of Partnerships at ANDY’S MAN CLUB, said:
“Our work is important because it ultimately helps not just the men that attend our groups, but their families too. We often receive emails of thanks from individuals themselves, family and friends saying how much our groups have helped and even saved lives. It means the world to us.
“Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ generosity helps keep our groups running and makes a real difference to so many men who rely on having a safe, supportive space to talk on a Monday night.
“Support like this helps us to continue opening doors, raising awareness and reaching even more men across the country who may be struggling.”
ANDY’S MAN CLUB was founded in 2016 after a young man named Andy Roberts took his own life unexpectedly at the age of 23. His mum and brother-in-law then came together to try to combat male suicide and, now nearly 10 years later, the charity operates over 350 free weekly talking groups nationwide.
Lucas added:
“Our long-term goal is for ANDY’S MAN CLUB to not exist. This sounds a bit backwards, but we want to break down the stigmas surrounding men's mental health to the point where men can talk openly and without judgement about their mental health, ensuring the clubs are no longer needed.”
ANDY’S MAN CLUB received £1,500 which will help fund new support groups and ensuring existing groups are well-stocked with essentials. The charity has groups all over the country, including a group in Nottingham.
Following the donation, the housebuilder’s Technical Director and Land Director, Trevor Rockley and Stephen Ward respectively, visited the charity’s representatives at Bulwell Academy to learn more about the importance of its work. Without establishments such as Bulwell Academy and its staff members, who work late every week to keep the building open for ANDY’S MAN CLUB, the charity wouldn’t exist.
Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer ANDY’S MAN CLUB a donation to support the fantastic work it does. Mental health is extremely important and we work hard to ensure there’s a strong support network available for our colleagues in the construction industry.
“It’s fantastic to support a charity with similar ambitions, helping to ensure men have the help they need, as and when they need it.”
Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ donation came from its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
The Barratt Redrow Foundation is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, it has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supported over 2,000 different charities, and is estimated to have directly impacted 100,000 young people each year.
