Oakham-based speciality coffee roastery, Two Chimps Coffee, were named winners in the Sustainability category at this year’s Leicestershire & Rutland SME Awards at a glitzy ceremony held at the Leonardo Hotel in Hinckley.
Two Chimps, headed up by Andy Cross and Laura Shead, had already received national recognition at the recent BizX Awards in Newport, where they were finalists in the Best E-Commerce Business and Green Company of the Year categories.
The award is recognition for hard work and investments made by the company that is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. With a target of reaching NetZero by 2040 and a business-wide commitment to recycling and sustainability, Two Chimps moved to their own premises from a rented building in the summer of 2025 and have already made a number of green renovations, which have contributed to this award, alongside the work with environmental consultants, Positive Planet.
The installation of new solar panels on the roof of the roastery on Pillings Road in Oakham has the potential to power up to 98 per cent of the business, while also reducing the carbon footprint and operating costs.
Head Chimps Laura and Andy, who personally attended the event and received the award on stage, said:
“It was a great event, and so nice to connect with so many other great small business owners in the East Midlands. We’re thrilled to win the sustainability award. As a company and team, being responsible for the impact we have or can influence is very important to us, and this is a wonderful recognition to receive.”
The title also means that Two Chimps Coffee has progressed to the national awards, which take place in London on Friday, 6 November.
