The President's Award is presented only to organisations sustaining 10-14 consecutive Gold awards - a milestone the majority of entrants never reach.
The award recognises organisations with strong health and safety systems, robust risk control and consistently low levels of harm, sustained over many consecutive years.
As a low-voltage switchgear manufacturer, MSSL builds safety into every job - at design, build and installation.
Operations and Finance Director Emily Bliss said:
"Ten consecutive Golds is a real team achievement. It takes consistent effort from everyone, and that consistency is what we're most proud of."
RoSPA’s annual Health and Safety Awards scheme is the world’s largest occupational health and safety awards programme, attracting around 2,000 entries from nearly 60 countries each year. The 2026 awards mark the 70th anniversary of the RoSPA Awards, reflecting how far workplace safety has come over seven decades.
The President’s Award marks a journey that began with Emily’s arrival in 2013, when MSSL started to formalise and strengthen its approach to safety through clear policies, accreditation and training.
Emily added: "When I started in 2013, many processes were outdated with minimal documentation.
“We started with the basics - clear policies, proper risk management and a genuine commitment to looking after our people.
“Everything since has been built on that foundation."
That work now sits across four ISO frameworks - including ISO 45001 and ISO 45003 for occupational health and psychological safety.
MSSL designs, builds and installs the LV switchboards and controlgear assemblies that control power distribution across complex buildings, such as data centres, hospitals and distribution warehouses.
The quality of that work, and the safety with which it is carried out, directly affects the people and systems that depend on it.
Earlier this year, MSSL was awarded the King's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, the UK's most prestigious business honour.
The award recognises its industry-leading approach to sustainability, standards and responsible growth.
Managing Director Sean Smith said:
“Our quality and service are the reasons clients trust us to power some of the UK's most critical facilities.
“The RoSPA President's Award and the King's Award both reflect the same thing - a business that holds itself to the highest standard, in everything it does."
Julia Small, RoSPA’s Growth Director, said:
“RoSPA congratulates Michael Smith Switchgear on its RoSPA President Health and Safety Award. The high standards Michael Smith Switchgear has achieved are the result of hard work and dedication.
“2026 is a landmark year for the RoSPA Awards as we reflect on how far workplace safety has come in 70 years.”
RoSPA’s Health and Safety Awards are sponsored by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), a leading global organisation providing internationally recognised health, safety and environmental qualifications.
