Bellway team spend volunteering days improving homes at Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary

Staff from housebuilder Bellway turned their attention to creating better homes for rescued animals when they visited Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary near Coalville.

Bellway employees each have a volunteering day to use every year and colleagues from the company’s East Midlands division selected the sanctuary as a worthwhile cause to support.

They split into two teams, one of which was tasked with clearing and deep cleaning a new barn, clearing a paddock of old tyres and feeding the animals. The other built a base before putting up a field shelter, painted an aviary and also spent time feeding animals. Bellway also provided lunch for the staff and volunteers.

Amie Howard, Volunteer Co-ordinator at Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary, said:

“Both teams were absolutely brilliant and were imperative in helping create vital areas where the animals can safely graze.

“Andi, one of the site managers, organised for some stone to be delivered to us when the stone we had ordered ourselves did not turn up in time. Nothing was too much trouble and the community spirit was out of this world.

“The vibe from both teams was really enthusiastic, even in the high winds and rain. The catered lunch Bellway provided brought staff and volunteers together. It was a welcome treat in the cold and perfect for fuelling us for the afternoon ahead.

“Both teams provided equipment to help with their tasks, supplying paint and even going and getting a jet washer from site for us to borrow when ours stopped working properly. They donated items of food for the animals in addition to waterproof trousers and paint brushes too.”

Bellway’s teams included staff from the divisional office as well as sales and construction staff from site. Sub-contractor James McMinn from New Build Landscaping and Home Maintenance also supported their efforts by volunteering for the day.

Imogen Deas, a business analyst for Bellway who also volunteers as charity co-ordinator for the East Midlands, said:

“Everyone who took part in these volunteering days found it truly rewarding. Both teams were fully committed and focused on spending their time making a real difference to the charity. Spending time with the animals was an added bonus.

“The staff and volunteers at Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary were incredibly welcoming. We’re grateful to them for arranging the days and hope our efforts have made an impact and helped to make the animals more comfortable.”
