Barratt and David Wilson Homes pledged the funding to Ashbourne Sports and Community Partnership, which has now installed a big screen on the recreation ground for the benefit of the community.
It will primarily be used as a modern scoreboard for rugby, football and cricket matches, featuring live updates and the capability to show photos of point scorers. There’s also the potential for the screen to be used as an outdoor cinema, in addition to a space for local community groups to advertise events and share important messages.
The £5,000 contribution from Barratt and David Wilson Homes helped to fund the big screen which, minutes away from the housebuilders’ Ashbourne Airfield development, will be a vital asset for the recreation ground.
John Lake, Chair of the Ashbourne Recreation Ground Sports and Community Partnership, said:
"We are delighted to have received such a generous contribution from Barratt and David Wilson Homes towards our new scoreboard and community screen.
“It was also very encouraging to hear from the senior representatives from both companies on how they support sports and community regeneration which matches the aims and objectives of the Ashbourne Sports and Community Partnership. We hope that this is the start of a long-term relationship in delivering sustainable regeneration in Ashbourne for the benefit of local people."
Following the grand unveiling of the big screen, the housebuilders’ representatives were given the opportunity to visit the community facility with the Partnership’s trustees and learn more about the exciting plans for the town’s sports teams and wider projects.
In attendance were John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, alongside Martyn Parker and Josh Malone, Sales Director and Sales Manager at Barratt Homes North Midlands, respectively.
Ashbourne Recreation Ground is the home of local football, rugby and cricket, and this latest investment is sure to enhance the experience for everyone involved in grassroots sport.
Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:
“It’s important to us to invest in grassroots sports and the communities in which we build new homes, and this big screen is going to be a fantastic asset for local residents and visitors at Ashbourne Recreation Ground.”
John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:
“We were delighted to meet the representatives from Ashbourne Sports and Community Partnership at The Pavilion and to learn more about their vision for the community. It was a pleasure to contribute to this project and we hope the big screen can serve the community for many years to come.”
