Freeater - the food confidence app launching 1st May 2026, eleven days after the National Allergy Strategy

For 1 in 4 Britons living with a food allergy or intolerance, eating out is rarely simple and for many, it has become something they avoid altogether (Ipsos, 2025).

60% of young people with dietary needs avoid eating out in the last six months (FSA, 2018). Today, Freeater launches on iOS and android. Founded by Derby entrepreneur Kate Alderson, Freeater is the food confidence app that shows people what they can eat, not what they can't - so everyone can be included at the table. Personalised to each user's dietary profile from sign-up - covering allergies, intolerances, religious/lifestyle diets. Freeater works directly with eateries to verify information, alongside peer confirmed information from the community. The app has a unique feature where users can add the profiles of everyone they're eating with, so the app finds somewhere that works for the whole group, not just one person at the table. Built following 650 surveys and interviews and 10 months of iOS beta testing, it arrives eleven days after the National Allergy Strategy, a timely response to a growing public health issue.

"Walking out of a restaurant because the kitchen can't accommodate you. Bringing Tupperware because nowhere felt safe. Sitting hungry while everyone around you eats. Or not going at all. That is what social isolation looks like and it is the reality for millions of people every time they eat out. We built Freeater for them." - Kate Alderson, Founder & CEO
