Five years of growth marked by double Dealmakers recognition for CMP Legal

Chesterfield-based CMP Legal has been shortlisted in the South Yorkshire and East Midlands Dealmakers Awards, further underlining the firm’s rapid rise as one of the region’s leading corporate advisers.

Anna Cattee, Director at CMP Legal who co-founded the law firm in 2021, said:

“The last five years have been transformational for CMP Legal. We have grown from an ambitious start-up into an award-winning firm with a strong reputation across the region and nationally.”

The firm has been recognised in the Deal of the Year (sub £10m) category in the South Yorkshire Dealmaker Award for its role advising on the merger of Mitchells Chartered Accountants (SMH Mitchells) and SMH Group. CMP Legal acted as the legal advisory team for SMH Group on the transaction.

The shortlisting follows hot on the heels of the Insider East Midlands Dealmakers Awards 2026, where CMP Legal has also been named as a finalist in three categories:

  • Corporate Law Firm of the Year
  • Deal of the Year (up to £10m)
  • Dealmaker of the Year – Anna Cattee

The winners of the East Midlands Dealmaker Awards will be announced on 21 May in Nottingham, closely followed by the South Yorkshire event in Sheffield on the 18 June.

The shortlisting in the Dealmaker Awards follows a slew of wins and nominations in several major awards and nominations over the last two years, including most recently Employment Team of the Year at the 2026 Sheffield & District Law Society Awards and Corporate and Commercial Law Firm of the Year at the Yorkshire Legal Awards.

CMP Legal also remains the only Chesterfield-based law firm to be recognised in the ‘Corporate and Commercial: Elsewhere in East Midlands’ category in the prestigious Legal 500.

Anna added:

“In just five years we have built a firm focused on commercial, pragmatic legal advice and outstanding client service. These shortlistings, alongside our recent Sheffield & District Law Society and Yorkshire Legal Awards success, show the strength of that approach as we continue to grow.”

Transactions are expected to rise further in 2026 with the addition of a dedicated commercial property department to CMP Legal’s corporate services. The new department will be launched later this year reflecting CMP Legal’s continued investment in building a full-service commercial practice.
