Bedfordshire housebuilder donates £3,000 to local foodbank

Bedford Foodbank has received a £3,000 donation from David Wilson Homes South Midlands to support its vital work.
The charity began in 2011 and supports anyone living in the Borough of Bedford who is experiencing food insecurity.
Operating under The Trussell Trust, Bedford Foodbank is a part of a network of foodbanks that operates all over the UK.
It works on a referral model, with over 300 local organisations as referral agencies which issue vouchers to those in need of food.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Sarah Broughton, Operations Director at Bedford Foodbank, said:
“Bedford Foodbank was delighted to receive this generous donation from David Wilson Homes, which will enable us to continue to feed those in need in Bedford.
“The very generous £3,000 donation will go towards the running costs of our vans which are pivotal to our operation.
“Bedford Foodbank serves the local community with the support of grants and donations. We couldn’t operate if we didn’t receive wonderful donations like this one from David Wilson Homes to keep our shelves full of food, to make food parcels for people in need in our community.
“It’s always an honour to receive a donation from a large business, especially when you know you have been nominated and selected by its staff.”
In 2024, Bedford Foodbank fed 24,258 people, of which 8,095 were children. It gave out 200,546 kilograms of food and toiletries, providing 477,490 meals.
