Businesses invited to explore new Cavendish Building at Industry Showcase Event

Businesses and entrepreneurs across the region are being invited to a special event at The Cavendish Building, the University of Derby’s new state-of-the-art business school building.

Taking place on Tuesday, 7 October, the event offers a unique opportunity to explore the future of business in the University’s new seven-storey building in the heart of Derby.

Attendees can expect a day packed with insightful workshops where they will hear from industry leaders on how they are solving real-world challenges. There will also be the chance to network with fellow business leaders, explore exhibition stands and tour the high-tech facilities.

The Cavendish Building is the new home of Derby International Business School and the UK’s first Institute of Carbonomics – a groundbreaking research institute dedicated to reshaping how businesses reduce emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy.

Located in the heart of the city, the £75m seven-storey building will set a blueprint for how universities can work effectively and meaningfully with industry.

Visitors will be able to tour the building’s cutting-edge facilities, including a Creativity Lab, a fully-equipped trading floor, a specialist Supply Chain Lab and an immersive extended reality suite.

The first workshop will be presented by Professor Marvin Cooke OBE DL, Professor of Enterprise at the University of Derby and former Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Europe.

Drawing on four decades of international industry experience, Professor Cooke will share key insights that are transferable to any business, including his interest in regenerative leadership for the future.

Professor Cooke said:

“I am delighted to be sharing my knowledge with local business leaders in such an inspiring setting.

“Derbyshire is rightly seen as a county of innovation and excellence, and I hope that my experience of working in a fast-paced, high-tech global environment across many European countries can offer inspiration.”

Designed to be flexible around a working day, the event welcomes visitors to join for the full day or drop in for sessions that are most relevant.

Guests will have access to flexible workspaces, a café, library, and on-site communal areas. They will also be able to explore rentable office spaces within the Cavendish Building, designed for businesses of all sizes.
