Barratt Homes made the donation to The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, (part of the Nottingham Roman Catholic Diocese) which is based on Station Road.
The funding will go towards the important maintenance and repairs to the church’s roof.
Father Andrew Harding, Parish Priest at the Nottingham Roman Catholic Diocese Trust, said:
“The church’s cast iron gutters need some repair and painting, tiles need re-setting, and re-pointing is also required. There are also some brick walls that need attention so that they remain standing for the next 100 years.
“The church is a centre of worship for Catholics in Ashby and the surrounding villages. Although it is particularly important in the lives of Catholics, it is open to anyone who is searching for a place of prayer, peace and beauty.
“We would like to thank Barratt Homes for helping us. We hope that people who buy new homes will be happy in them and will also find their home here, in Our Lady of Lourdes.”
With everyday costs rising, the church relies on people’s generosity to help it function and remain open, and increasingly people are finding it difficult to find the extra resources to help as much as it’s required.
Andrew added:
“Beyond the financial assistance, it’s important that local businesses feel part of the whole community and contribute to it, and that the beneficiaries recognise that contribution. This creates cohesive, caring communities for all people.”
Barratt Homes’ donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Foundation. It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the areas in which the housebuilder operates.
Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said:
“The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is a peaceful and supportive space for local people in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and it’s a pleasure to support the Nottingham Roman Catholic Diocese Trust with its maintenance projects.”
