Celebrating Pride month with a “pay what you can” cinema screening organised by Base 51 and Nottinghamshire Pride

Base 51, a youth charity that has been supporting young people in the area for over 30 years and runs the popular Outburst LGBTQIA+ group, is teaming up with Nottinghamshire Pride, the organisers of the much-loved annual pride festival which takes place at the end of July, for a showing of the 2014 film Pride.

Staring Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott and Imelda Staunton this uplifting film celebrates coming together despite perceived differences, all to build a better world - "realising that they share common foes in Margaret Thatcher, the police and the conservative press, London-based gay and lesbian activists lend their support to striking miners in 1984 Wales."

Tickets for the event are ‘pay what you can’, and any profits will be split between both organisations – raising vital funds to support their work.

Verity Woods, Head of Fundraising at Base 51 said

“we are so excited to team up with Nottinghamshire Pride, we’ve had stall at the Pride event for many years and throughout the year we’re all work towards the goal of making Nottingham an inclusive and safe place for LGBTQIA+ people. Base 51 has always held inclusivity at the heart of everything we do, we want to ensure that every young person can get the support their need – whether that’s counselling, or just somewhere fun to hang out after school/college. This event will be a great way for the community and allies to come together for a fun night of cinema!”

As well as the film showing, there will also be networking in the Meze Bar before and after the screening.
