Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Reflecting on the importance of relationships and sensitively delivering several high-profile investigation cases that have helped build its profile in the last five years, the team is also gearing up for a busy year with major employment law changes ahead.
Established in April 2020, Bond Legal is the brainchild of experienced employment law solicitor, Simon Bond, who took a leap of faith at the start of the pandemic. Keen to be closer to friends and family in the East Midlands and with a desire to do things his own way, Simon Bond made the move from a successful career at a large Black Country law firm to set up in private practice from his office in Leicestershire.
Advising on all aspects of employment law and HR issues, including large-scale reorganisations, redundancy consultations, and change management programmes,
Bond Legal has also forged an admirable reputation for offering specialist independent HR investigations advising businesses, universities, charities and not for profit organisations.
Independent workplace investigations have become a growing niche for the employment law team, Simon explains:
“We’ve undertaken several sensitive, complex and high-profile investigations for universities and charities into grievances and allegations of misconduct, bullying and harassment, fraud, discrimination and whistleblowing. These are often difficult investigations with complex facts that need some unpicking.
“We understand that employing people can be extremely challenging. Most employers want to treat their employees fairly, but fairness is a flexible concept. What might be in the interests of the business might not be perceived as fair from the employee’s perspective. Sadly, cases of harassment or bullying in the workplace are very common and can be very difficult and sensitive to investigate. That’s where we can offer an independent and objective perspective to help find a resolution.”
Simon is well positioned to offer specific insight in these cases. As well as sitting on several Regulatory Tribunals as a legally qualified panel member, Simon is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Career highlights include becoming the Legally Qualified Chair of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in 2019 and a panel member at the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority in 2020.
Simon comments:
“Since qualifying as a solicitor, a very long time ago, I always found employment law really fascinating, because it’s about people and relationships. That has been the focus of my practice ever since. I also enjoy the fact that employment law is fast moving and changes so much. None more so over the next 12 months, with the introduction the Employment Rights Bill, where we are expecting to see the biggest changes to employment law in a generation.”
“These new provisions will have significant implications around HR practice, employer recruitment and redundancy policies. It is essential that organisations review their existing recruitment practices and probationary policies ahead of the laws taking effect in 2026 to prepare themselves for these significant shifts in employee rights.”
Simon is proud of what the team has achieved in its first five years, making it to a milestone that many start-ups unfortunately don’t manage. His focus for the future is to keep building on year-on-year growth and continue to provide excellent quality HR and employment advice services to clients.
