The event, marking the 80th anniversary of the Second World War’s pivotal Battle of Arnhem, featured performances by The Band of the Welsh Guards, historical insights from speakers, and music by 1940s singer Melody Flyte.
The concert, organised by the Lincolnshire chairman of the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF), aims to raise funds for the charity, which supports soldiers, veterans, and their families.
The Battle of Arnhem, one of the most iconic engagements of the Second World War, was part of Operation Market Garden and involved British, American, and Polish Forces. The county of Lincolnshire, often referred to as ‘bomber county’, played a significant role in the mission, with US airfields in the area dispatching aircraft that carried thousands of paratroopers and glider troops into battle.
Neil McCorquodale, Chairman at Army Benevolent Fund, said:
“The ABF is most grateful for the very generous support of David Wilson Homes.”
David Wilson Homes’ contribution to the event was made as the developer expands its presence in the county with new homes at its Pastures Place development in Corby Glen.
John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:
“We are proud to support Arnhem 80 and the important work of the Army Benevolent Fund.
“Lincolnshire has a deep connection to the events surrounding the Battle of Arnhem, and this concert is a fitting tribute to the bravery and sacrifices made by those involved.
“As we continue building homes in the county at Pastures Place, we’re pleased to help celebrate and preserve the local history that means so much to the community.”
The concert offered an opportunity for audiences to experience live military music and remember the efforts of allied forces, including the role of US aircrew who flew paratroopers from Lincolnshire airfields into the heart of the conflict. Proceeds from the evening have been donated to ABF to provide ongoing support to soldiers in need and their families.
