Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

The charity, formed in 1918 to support the widows of those who fell in the Great War, now helps veterans and their families, and retired nurses, who, due to retirement, bereavement, or isolation, need a renewed purpose in life.
The League of Remembrance achieves this through its volunteer programme, based on the principle of ‘helping people, to help themselves, by helping others’.
Its beneficiaries, called Remembrance Workers, deliver an annual total of 7,500 hours of volunteer services at hospitals, hospices, foodbanks, charity workshops and stores, and other community-based organisations.
In addition, the charity supports a number of Honorary Remembrance Workers who, although no longer able to volunteer, still need companionship and support in order to remain active and healthy.
Major Rob Thomas, Secretary at The League of Remembrance, said:
“We were delighted when we found out about the donation from Barratt Homes. We also took special pleasure in the fact that we are a small charity and not widely known about, and the Northampton division decided to select us for a donation.
“We received a very generous sum of £1,500, which will be used in direct support of our Remembrance Workers, particularly the social events to thank them for their work, and continue to make them feel valued and supported.
“Funding our work is an ongoing challenge, particularly when economic conditions are negative. What was particularly pleasing about this donation is that it was completely unexpected, and receiving funding in this way is a huge boost to morale.
“We feel Barratt Homes’ Community Fund scheme is an excellent idea. It is heartening to see a well-respected company support communities through the provision of generous financial donations, and even better that it engages with its employees in this admirable endeavour.
“On behalf of everyone at The League of Remembrance, I would like to say a big thank you to Barratt Homes. It is organisations such as Barratt Homes that make our communities stronger and exemplify all that is good about the United Kingdom.”
Simon Francis, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said:
“As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer The League of Remembrance a donation to support the fantastic and important work it does.
“The charity’s efforts to support our veterans and their families is amazing, and we wish the whole team the very best for the future.”
