The defibrillator, which is available 24/7 for use in the event of someone suffering a cardiac arrest, has been installed free of charge by Derby-based engineering company, Arc Mechanical & Electrical Ltd.
Arc director Lewis Kirkman (pictured) explained:
“We were delighted to use our expertise to ensure this vital life-saving equipment was correctly installed and now available for the benefit of the local community.
“Defibrillation is the only method to treat someone in cardiac arrest. Every minute that a person in sudden cardiac arrest does not receive defibrillation, their chances of survival drop by 7-10%.”
Safe and Sound CEO Tracy Harrison added:
“As a charity, we support the whole local community and, having identified a lack of community automated external defibrillators in this part of Derby, we successfully applied for a government grant to buy this equipment.
“Our next task was to find someone who could ensure it was installed correctly on the external wall of our Hub in Cotton Lane.
“Arc have done a great job and we have already had very positive feedback from the local community in recognition that this could mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.”
