Representing Two Chimps Coffee, a local coffee roastery in Oakham, Charlotte wowed the judges with her creativity, skill, and passion, ultimately claiming the title over two other talented finalists.
The competition, organised by the Swiss kitchenware brand Zyliss, saw Charlotte face off against finalists Natalie Steer and Emma Greenslade in a live final where they were tasked with perfecting the classic carrot cake. Charlotte, a long-time baking enthusiast, impressed the judges not only with her technical ability but also with her unique twist on the traditional bake, drawing on her experience infusing her creations with Two Chimps Coffee’s speciality roasts. Her popular Tiramisu Cookies, often a hit with her colleagues, are just one example of how she blends her work and passion for baking.
Judging the competition were award-winning food writer Jo Pratt, Divertimenti Cookery School Head Jules Kane, and Heidi Thomas, Head of Marketing at DK Household Brands, which includes Zyliss. They all praised Charlotte for her finesse and flair, which made her carrot cake stand out.
Charlotte’s victory marks a special moment for Two Chimps Coffee, as her colleagues have been her biggest supporters throughout the competition.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to have won,” Charlotte said. “Baking alongside such talented finalists was such a fun experience, and I’m so grateful to the judges, Zyliss, and the Divertimenti team for making it such an unforgettable day. And I can't forget about my amazing team at Two Chimps Coffee! They've been my biggest cheerleaders since day one. We even kicked off the celebration by eating the delicious carrot cake for breakfast – because why not, right?”
Heidi Thomas of DK Household Brands expressed her excitement about the competition’s success.
“Charlotte’s enthusiasm and originality really set her apart. We’re so proud to name her the UK’s Best Office Baker, and we hope her win inspires others to share their baking passion with colleagues.”
Food writer Jo Pratt also highlighted the competition’s tough nature.
“Charlotte’s cake had an extra layer of finesse. The quality of all the bakes was outstanding, but Charlotte’s truly stood out,” she said.
As the winner, Charlotte received a Zyliss Baker’s Dozen Kit, a collection of essential tools for home bakers, and a signed copy of Jo Pratt’s cookbook, which she can't wait to utilise and inspire her next recipes, which will feature on Two Chimps Learning Hub. Charlotte will also return next year to help judge the competition, which looks set to become a staple of National Baking Week for years to come.
