Santa is making a welcome return to the Cathedral Quarter Grotto in November - and this year you’ll find him at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

The event has been sponsored by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), and Santa’s magical grotto opens on Saturday, November 30.

Each child will receive a festive trail activity sheet and a special gift from Santa. Families will be able to take their own photographs with Santa and his elves – all in the magical surroundings of the museum’s atmospheric, wood-panelled Jacobite Room complete with cosy fireplace. Afterwards, why not visit the Museum’s Coffee House for a range of festive treats to purchase.

Tickets cost £4.50 per child and booking is essential via the Museum’s website. Santa’s Grotto will be open every weekend from Friday, November 30, to Sunday, December 22, from 10am to 3pm. It will also be open on weekdays from Tuesday, December 17 to 20, from 10am to 3.30pm.

Dr Alex Rock, Director of Commercial and Operations at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, said the attraction was delighted to be welcoming Santa Claus this year.

He explained:

“Derby Museums Trust is proud to be offering a fantastic grotto experience in the atmospheric surroundings of Derby Museum and Art Gallery, partnering with the Cathedral Quarter BID and their many years’ experience of running great grottos in the city.

“At £4.50 a child, it’s excellent value for money, and Santa is looking forward to giving every child who comes to see him a present and a festive trail. Make sure you visit the Coffee House afterwards for festive bakes and mulled wine!”

Brad Worley, manager for the Cathedral Quarter BID, said:

“We always work hard to create a family-friendly Christmas atmosphere in Derby during December, and our Cathedral Quarter Santa’s Grotto this year is wonderful.

“This year it will be situated at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and we are confident that it is affordable for families who want to enjoy a special moment before Christmas.

“We want to encourage families to come to Derby and enjoy all the events we have planned, including the new Santa’s Grotto.”
