Ettos, Nottingham-Based Start-Up, Secures Innovate UK Grant for Textile Traceability Platform

Ettos, a local tech start-up based in Nottingham, has secured a prestigious grant from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency, as part of their Creative Catalyst programme.

This vital funding will fast-track the development of Ettos’ innovative textile traceability platform, a project poised to transform transparency and accountability in the textile industry.

Founded by Nottingham siblings Adriana Romano Batty and Gianni Romano, Ettos was born out of a passion for sustainable fashion and a commitment to ethical sourcing. Drawing on their expertise in fashion technology and sustainability, Adriana and Gianni developed a software solution that addresses one of the fashion industry’s most significant challenges: ensuring transparency throughout the supply chain.

Ettos’ platform utilises advanced technology to track and verify the journey of textiles from raw material to finished product. This helps consumers make informed purchasing decisions and enables brands and manufacturers to meet growing demands for sustainability and ethical production practices.

Driving Transparency with Digital Product Passports

A key feature of the Ettos platform is its ability to support Digital Product Passports (DPPs), which are set to become essential under upcoming UK and EU legislation. DPPs are digital records that provide detailed information about a product's lifecycle, from material sourcing to end-of-life disposal. These passports are designed to enhance transparency, support the circular economy, and ensure that products meet new regulatory standards.

With Innovate UK’s funding, Ettos will further enhance its platform to help local and national brands seamlessly integrate DPPs into their operations. This will enable businesses to comply with the new legislation, ensuring greater transparency and traceability within the supply chain. By adopting DPPs, brands can meet legal requirements while building trust with consumers who increasingly demand sustainable and ethical products.

Adriana Romano Batty, Co-Founder of Ettos, remarked:

"Receiving recognition and backing from Innovate UK is incredibly affirming and shows that our vision of a transparent textile industry is achievable. Transparency is key to driving sustainable practices and Innovate UK’s support will be a huge catalyst in making that a reality."

Gianni Romano, fellow founder of Ettos, added:

"The grant will enable us to integrate cutting-edge technologies that enhance the scalability and effectiveness of our platform. This will help brands drive comprehensive sustainability strategies, with material claim tracking and supply chain mapping all in one place."
