LEICESTERSHIRE HOMEBUILDER DONATES £1,500 TO COMMUNITY SUPPORT CHARITY

A Loughborough charity has received a £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes to support members of the community with a variety of services.

Over the past 20 years, PACE UK (ProActive Community Endeavours) has supported Charnwood residents in a variety of ways, such as opening a foodbank that provides emergency food parcels for people who have fallen on hard times.

David Wilson Homes’ contribution came as part of the Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Helen Weaver, Financial Administrator at PACE UK, said:

“We would like to say a big thank you to David Wilson Homes for its generous gift which has truly been a blessing to our organisation.  We appreciate companies who wish to donate to help local organisations meet the needs of people in the community.

“It has been particularly tough for people during COVID-19, along with the increase in fuel and general cost-of-living increasing. This had a huge impact on individuals and families, which has seen our youth group and summer camp attendee numbers increase.”

The charity also runs a variety of community groups including a two-week camp for children aged between eight and 14, set up with the idea to let children have fun and make new friends whilst offering parents cost-effective childcare. There is also the Pace Baby Springers, which is a toddler group made up of parents with around 40 babies and toddlers collectively that meet weekly to socialise.

On top of these community groups, PACE UK has also recently appointed a full-time youth worker who meets with a group weekly to share food, play sport, and develop employability skills. The youth worker has recently been entering estates to campaign for ‘No Knives’ and to break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

PACE UK also supports people with financial worries with its ‘On Track’ financial management programme, which offers people a weekly printed booklet with a tracker to help them get out of debt and manage their money.

The Community Fund donation of £1,500 from David Wilson Homes, based close by at its development The Skylarks, will go towards ensuring the charity’s projects are well funded and able to run throughout the year.

Last year, PACE UK launched its AOK5000 (Acts of Kindness 5000) scheme with the goal to provide food and hampers to vulnerable members of the community for free. The hampers included items to keep the recipients warm such as hot water bottles, blankets and scarves. Members of the public were invited to come and choose which items they needed, along with a mixture of meat and diary products.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support PACE UK in its mission to provide support to vulnerable families and the wider community in Loughborough.

“At David Wilson Homes, we believe in building more than just houses; we believe in building stronger communities. Through our donation, we hope to make a positive difference in the lives of deserving beneficiaries through charities such as PACE UK and contribute to the welfare of our local community.”
