Burton Firm Triumphs with MoD Win

Russell Roof Tiles whose headquarters are on Nicolson Way in Burton has continued its growing success, winning a project to supply tiles for a £1m Ministry of Defence (MoD) housing redevelopment in Fareham, East Hampshire.

Russell Roof Tiles is a leading independent roof tile manufacturer providing products for leading UK house builders and high-profile social housing and commercial projects. The company produces thousands of concrete roof tiles and accessories every week used on roofs across the country, manufactured in Burton and Scotland.

The project, which is already underway, will see 62 existing MoD homes receive a complete upgrade, including the roof being completely retiled. Russell Roof Tiles will be supplying its Double Roman concrete roof tiles, which will be installed by Hampshire based roofers Protec Roofing Ltd. This project is the latest in a long line of Ministry of Defence contracts that Russell Roof Tiles have provided support for.

Estimated to be complete by Spring 2025, the improvements will ensure that the houses conform to the latest British Standards, a set of rules builders and housing developers must abide by to ensure their properties are safe to live in  For this project the housing is being brought up to standard for service families as part of the MoD’s commitment to providing essential accommodation for UK military families.

Michael Palmer, Area Sales Manager at Russell Roof Tiles said:

“We are very proud to be continuing to support the Ministry of Defence with its re-roofing programme. This is such a significant project, and we are happy to be delivering our market-leading and sustainable products and systems.

“By utilising its incredible expertise and knowledge of previously working with the Ministry of Defence on similar projects, the team will deliver an efficient and high level of service. We look forward to working on the development over the next 12 months.”

The project win comes at a significant time for Russell Roof Tiles with the business currently undergoing its biggest expansion project since being acquired in 2011. The £18.5 million investment to its Nicolson Way site in Burton will deliver more manufacturing lines and a new 1600 square meter building which will house a state-of-the-art curing chamber, only the second of its type in the country, for the concrete tiles. The expansion will ultimately create approx. 25-30 skilled and semi-skilled jobs in engineering and maintenance.
