The move marks a renewed focus on Port Operators and companies operating within Ports for Octavian Security UK and comes ahead of a major expansion for the firm with the forthcoming opening of a new Southampton office.
Pete, who has a background in the Armed Forces, has extensive security and safety experience gained through a long and successful career in the sector.
He left the British Army in 1999, having served for over 23 years years in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, finishing as a Warrant Officer Class One.
After the army he joined Southampton Container Terminals Limited (SCT) as the Safety Manager.
Pete takes up the story: "In 2003, I oversaw ensuring the Terminal was compliant with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) in line with the requirements of the Department for Transport. This was successfully completed in May 2004 and the ISPS Code came into force 01 July 2004. I was formally appointed as the Safety & Security Manager soon after.
"I’d completed the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) course in January 2004. In 2006 DP World acquired the majority shareholding for SCT, they required their Terminals to be certified to ISO28000:2007. I completed this task in August 2008."
Other certifications that he was responsible for attaining were Authorised Economic Operator Security & Safety (AEOS) in April 2009 and then Authorised Economic Operator Customs Simplifications (AEOC) in February 2019.
Pete retired in April 2021, but has been attracted back into the industry by Octavian Security UK.
He said:
"The chance to use my knowledge to help a dynamic company such as Octavian Security UK wasn't one I was going to turn down. Maritime Security is an area which is fast-moving and is ever-changing. I'm looking forward to working with the company and team on this fast-growing element of the Octavian business."
Kiran Ghuman, Managing Director of Octavian Security UK, added:
"To have someone with the vast experience that Pete has to be able to call on is a huge honour for us. Our maritime security business is growing exceptionally and having Pete on board will help us harness this growth and catapult our expertise forward."
