The busy salon is run by co-directors Cate Rowlands and Sheralynne Shepherd. Cate joined KH Hair as a young apprentice in 1982, working her way up through the hairdressing ranks to become joint director of the salon in 1996 alongside Michael McMenamin. After Michael’s retirement in 2006, the salon’s former apprentice and noticeable rising star, Sheralynne, went into partnership with Cate. At just 23, Sheralynne was then the youngest director ever of the franchise group.
Cate says this special milestone would not have been achieved if it had not been for the talented and hardworking salon teams from the very beginning right up to present day.
“People in our industry do tend to move around for various reasons,” she explains. “But we have been very lucky to train and work with so many fantastic people over the last 40 years, and to have such a lovely team currently in place. We have stylists that have been with us for 36, 25 and 20 years and every single one of the team is a big asset to our salon. We’re looking forward to taking all of them out for a slap-up meal later this month to say thank you and to celebrate our success.”
Long-standing client, Diane Horsfield, has been visiting the salon since making the ‘momentous and scary’ decision to have her long hair cut and styled as she approached her 30th birthday.
“My then colleagues were unanimous that I should go to Keith Hall (as it was called then),” she says. “and put my new haircut into the safe hands of Cate Rowlands. Thirty-five and a bit years later, my haircuts are still in Cate’s safe hands.
“Over the years we’ve restyled a few times, had several heads full of lowlights, and even a wedding day hair do, and my husband is now also a satisfied customer. Why have I stayed with KH Hair so long? The quality of the cut is first class and always much admired; the staff are well trained and friendly; they listen and, most importantly, won’t let you have a style you’ve found in a magazine if it’s not suitable for your hair type, which I find invaluable. Congratulations to the team on reaching this impressive anniversary and here’s to the next 40 years.”
The KH Hair Loughborough team will be thanking its clients, old and new, throughout the celebrations by holding a free raffle with lots of lovely prizes up for grabs.
“We want to say a huge thank you to our fantastic clients, some of whom have been supporting us since day one,” says Sheralynne. “We’ve been through lots of ups and downs together and made some very good friends. One of our stylists was even invited to be a bridesmaid at a client’s wedding, which was very special indeed. A massive thank you to you all. We couldn’t have done it without you!”
The Loughborough salon is part of the KH Hair Group which opened its first premises back in 1920. Founder, Mr Keith Hall MBE, went on to grow a portfolio which today comprises 21 salons including a barber’s shop. The franchise is run by managing director, Darren Messias from KH Hair’s Head Office in Long Eaton, which is also home to the company’s award-winning training academy.
“Reaching this milestone is no mean feat in today’s world,” says Darren. “And we couldn’t have done it without the hard work, commitment and passion of Cate, Sheralynne and all the teams past and present. Of course, it also wouldn’t be possible without the loyalty of all our fantastic clients who have supported us over the past 40 years, so thank you to each and every one of you.”
