Flash the cash for kindness: GIVE Leicester's Random Acts of Kindness Week flash mob to help homeless people in Leicester

BID Leicester has invited everyone to embrace a random act of kindness next week by getting involved in a unique ‘flash mob’ giving event.

GIVE Leicester, a giving scheme aimed at helping tackle the problem of rough sleeping in Leicester city centre through contactless donations, aims to uplift Leicester through acts of generosity. There are donation points dotted across the city centre.

Each tap at one of the points, which look like big love hearts in shop windows, automatically makes a £3 donation, 100% of which goes directly to Leicester-based homeless charity Help the Homeless Leicester. Here’s how to join in:

1. Gather your crew: Bring your friends and colleagues to spread kindness together.

2. Head to a GIVE Leicester donation point: Join us at these times and locations:

  • Tuesday, 13th February: LCB Depot, 11 am
  • Wednesday, 14th February: Haymarket (near Haymarket Bus Station), 11 am
  • Thursday, 15th February: Mattioli Woods, 11 am

3. Tap and give: Your £3 donation supports Help the Homeless Leicester directly.

100% of donations go directly to Help the Homeless Leicester, who provide provide essential relief and assistance to those facing homelessness in Leicester and the surrounding areas.

The organisation's approach includes giving of material aid, signposting to services, housing and employment support, emergency accommodations, and ongoing assistance for individuals after securing housing. The charity also aims to boost self-esteem, empower individuals, and encourages independent living through trusted relationships.

The initiative - a collaboration between BID Leicester and Leicester City Council in partnership with Leicester Homelessness Charter - has raised over £56,000 since launching, thanks to your support. It has not only made donating simpler but also more secure, with donors having certainty about where their money is going, and the knowledge that it will help to make a real positive difference.

Simon Jenner, BID Leicester Director, said: “The flash mob event will be a chance for people in Leicester to take 10 minutes out of their day, get together on masse, and give a simple act of kindness that will add to up to make a huge difference to the lives of real people.”
