LEICESTERSHIRE DEVELOPER ENCOURAGES PUPILS TO DIG INTO NATIONAL CHILDREN’S GARDENING WEEK

A nursery in Wigston is getting stuck into National Children’s Gardening Week (27th May to 4th June) following a green-fingered donation from David Wilson Homes.

Hunny Pot Day Nursery, which recently achieved an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating and is located near David Wilson Homes’ Wigston Meadows development, has received a donation of children’s gardening kits, which includes plastic gardening tools, compost, flower seeds and vegetable seeds for beginner gardeners.

National Children’s Gardening Week is an annual festival that is celebrated in homes, schools and community groups across the country, and supports the Greenfingers Charity which is dedicated to providing gardens for children in hospices suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

Faye Baxter, Setting Manager at Hunny Pot Day Nursery, said:

“The children were very excited to see the gardening equipment and seeds they were gifted. As a setting, we love to do activities to promote understanding of the world with the children, and they love to see how things grow and change over time.

“The staff and children have already made great plans for the seeds, which are to be planted outside the front of the nursery to make the bedding area look beautiful. They are also planning on planting some of the vegetable seeds so that they can use their home grown vegetables for snack time.”
