Nottingham museum to host The Big Swap Shop event

Award-winning museum Framework Knitters has teamed up with The Big Swap Shop to host a swap and slow fashion event on Saturday 10 June between 6pm-9pm.
The family-friendly event, which will be held at the museum on Chapel Street in Ruddington, will see a twilight evening with a fashion mini market as well as local slow traders. Guests can also experience textile demos and an informal chat with a circular fashion brand who is pioneering recycled cotton in its latest collection.
Ten items can be brought and swapped for clothing, shoes and/ or accessories, however nightwear, underwear or jewellery can’t be accepted. All items must be in great condition and any size can be brought.
Between 6pm-7pm, guests can drop items at the museum’s Chapel door with the event team for checking and hanging up. Items can also be taken in advance on the 7, 8 and 9 June.
General admission tickets for swapping only are £10, the rest of the event is free. Parker’s Yard and The Split Screen Coffee Company will be providing Pimms, G&T and fizz, as well as Mediterranean food, local music producers and a DJ.
The Big Swap Shop was formed as a collaboration between Style Swap Events founder Sarah Jackson and Big Swap founder Zoe Sussmeyer, aiming to be as size-inclusive as possible while allowing people to swap their unwanted clothing for other preloved pieces.
Sarah Godfrey, creative and commercial manager at the museum, said:
“We’re thrilled to be hosting The Big Swap Shop Event, which is all about making sustainable fashion options available to people of all sizes.
“You only need a ticket for the swap, and we welcome anyone o come and enjoy an evening filled with fashion, fun and even some food. Bring a friend or partner along and take advantage of what’s on offer!”

“We’re super excited for our June event, not only are we taking a brave step out of Nottingham city centre, but we’re collaborating with an award-winning, historical textiles museum.
“The Framework Knitters is an absolute gem, in the heart of Ruddington village, steeped in history with its exhibits of textile workers. We’re looking forward to hosting the event and meeting lots of new faces.”
All items left over at the end of the event are donated to charity White Rose for resale in their stores, supporting work to raise awareness, build peace and prevent genocide.
