Baby support charity receives £1,500 donation from Northamptonshire Homebuilder

Baby Basics Northampton, a charity which specialises in helping the new mums with essentials for their new babies and themselves in Northamptonshire, has received a £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.

The contribution from the leading housebuilder will help Baby Basics Northampton continue to support vulnerable mothers who are in need of vital support, so far the charity has helped over 1,900 families with Moses baskets that are made up with donations from supporters of the charity.

Gemma Stammers, Finance and Communications Lead at Baby Basics, said:

“We are extremely grateful, we appreciate the support David Wilson Homes is giving to the local community

“The funding will go towards buying essential items for our starter packs. Each Moses basket starter pack provides a safe place for the new born to sleep, and essential items such as clothing, blankets, toiletries for baby and toiletries for the mum to be.”

The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Two employees at David Wilson Homes used their volunteering hours given by the homebuilder to help the team at Baby Basics for a day.

Gemma continued:

“It was a wonderful surprise! We had been nominated by a David Wilson Homes employee so we had no idea that we were even being considered. We’re also really pleased that Gemma and her colleague, Hayley, are going to use their volunteering hours to join us at one of our volunteering sessions so they can find out more about the work of Baby Basics Northampton and see how their donation will be used.”

“On behalf of Baby Basics, I would like to say thank you to David Wilson Homes for its continued support.”

Baby Basics was established 10 years ago and has been providing support and essentials for mothers across the whole of Northamptonshire, relying on three employees and the team of volunteers who work at the charity.

Ben Kalus, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said:

“As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Baby Basics a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
