SMB College Group Alumnus Choreographs Show for London Fashion Week!

For this year’s London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter showcase, former SMB College Group Dance Student, Aimee Leigh, choreographed Edeline Lee’s immersive fashion show!

Aimee Leigh is a choreographer based in London, she studied Dance with SMB College Group before going on to graduate from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in Dance. Her career began working as an Associate Choreographer across numerous genres within the community dance and dance theatre sectors. These opportunities gave Aimee the platform to freely create and explore work from many different angles. Since, Aimee has gone on to create for various productions across theatre and television and most recently choreographing a show for London fashion week.

The show Aimee choreographed was for Edeline Lee, a Canadian-British designer who creates structured, feminine womenswear for the Future Lady, made by hand in England. The show was in homage to London, a city that Edeline loves, showcasing heritage and creativity through a brilliant guerrilla-style, immersive experience.

Aimee Leigh said

“This is was an incredibly unique job as the catwalk was stationed in the streets of London ‘flash mob style’. It took a team of nearly two hundred people to make it happen. Choreographing this included a lot of logistic meetings with various departments and one to one rehearsal with each dancer to make sure they knew exactly where to go and what to do. Once the designer gives their ideas for the piece then it’s my job to cast the dancers, create the movement, rehearse it and stage it on the day.”

The show was a huge success and was featured in Forbes article ‘15 Highlights From London Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023’ as a brilliant performance.

Catherine Webb, Performing Arts Lecturer at SMB College Group, said

“Aimee was a pleasure to teach while on the dance course. Open minded, hardworking, and always able to put a smile on everyone’s faces! It is no surprise she is doing so well as she was always such a positive ball of energy and full of ideas. We are all so proud of her here in Performing Arts at the Melton Campus!”
