We can build: Homebuilder donates educational books to Nottinghamshire school

John Hunt Academy in Newark has received a donation of 35 educational books written by graduates on David Wilson Homes’ ASPIRE Programme.

The book, named ‘We Can Build’, takes readers on the journey of building a house through the various professions in the housebuilding industry.

Aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, it introduces young learners to the basics of the built environment and will inspire the next generation of Architects, Engineers and Site Managers.

In addition, 100% of the profits of the sale of the books have gone to The Prince’s Trust; a charity that helps connect young people with mentors, career opportunities and provide pathways into inspiring futures.

Miss Devlin, Assistant Headteacher at John Hunt Academy, said:

“We would like to thank David Wilson Homes for inspiring the next generation of home designers and builders.”

John Hunt Academy is located near the homebuilder’s Fernwood Village development off Phoenix Lane, and the donation forms a part of David Wilson Homes’ outreach to the local community.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We are really proud of our ASPIRE graduates for the amazing book they have put together.

“The book covers all elements of construction including architecture, engineering, surveying, site management, construction and sales. We hope that the book might inspire some of the pupils at John Hunt Academy to become the next generation in the industry.”
