Binks Yard hosts lunch for Nottingham Girls' High School pupils for charity walk

More than 185 pupils from Nottingham Girls’ High School have taken part in a sponsored Countryfile Ramble through Nottingham city centre, raising over £1600 for Children in Need.

On Friday 18 November, the students - aged between three and 11 years old set out to prove it’s possible to walk five miles along Nottingham’s waterways without crossing any roads, before being hosted for lunch at Binks Yard midway through the walk.

Mark Cox, school consultant teacher at Nottingham Girls’ High School, said:

“It’s so important for our pupils to take part in fundraisers such as Children in Need, and this challenge was a great way for them to be physically active and raise money for a very worthy cause. The walk was a wonderful day out for all as it also allowed us to take in the beauty of Nottingham’s famous waterways, which often go overlooked.

“We were kindly sponsored by Nottingham Express Transit, who transported us to and from the start and finish point.  A big thank you to Binks Yard who also allowed our students to use the venue’s fabulous new outdoor entertainment area during lunch.”

Binks Yard, which recently opened this year, is easily located from the Nottingham Canal towpath.

Ben Hicklin, head of events at 1 The Island Quarter, said:

“Being a part of the Nottingham community is hugely important to us at 1 The Island Quarter but it’s particularly special to support children from a prominent local school. It was great to see the students enjoying our new outdoor space and along with our newly installed large screen. A big well done to all who took part and helped raise money for such a fantastic cause.”

Children In Need is the BBC’s UK charity and since 1980 has raised more than £1.5 billion pounds for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. All money raised from the ramble will be donated to the charity.
